    When you build PC, you can not move the existing HDD from another PC to the NEW BUILD and expect it to work. As TrainableMan has stated, it's a MS OEM issue...meaning that the OS is permanently tied to that mobo/cpu (hardware). So the bottom line is with a new build or major hardware change...

    Did this laptop come with windows 8? If so, down grading to windows 7 from 8, Acer may not have any 7 drivers for that OS on that model laptop.

    Bottom line: Any key assigned by MS to any OS is only good for that particular OS and can't be interchanged.

    Not sure I fully under stand what you're asking. For the retail windows 7, did you purchase the install media (DVD) with the proper key? Where did you purchase it from? For the OEM...where did you purchase that from, did it come with the install media (DVD) with a product key? As I read it...

    Did you create a partition for the new install to reside on? Can you post a screen shot of or disk management window?

    you can use the same disk to install....but you need a new "Product Key" for the 2nd installation to be active/accepted by MS. And when dual booting, the original MBR is what controls both OS boot options for OS choice selection at start up.

    In safemode with network enabled....open a cmd prompt with admin rights. Then type this in with out the quotes "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and press enter.

    Go with MS. Then cross check the missing KB security updates Belarc says is missing to what you have installed.
