What am I missing? Both username and password are correct.
I have verified on the web based mail side.
So I know it is the client, not the server.
I can receive, just can't send.

Was working just fine until I got attacked this morning from zillions of
bounce backs from a spammer.

I sent an email out from the web based client and that worked just fine.

My first guess is that you're SMTP access has been cut off by your ISP,
as there's a strong possibility that your computer has been compromised
and is sending out spam. That's where all those bounce-back messages
are coming from.

Your mail client should show error messages that will give you a clue.
You may need to enable its logging feature.

This might be a good time to contact your ISP. If they have blocked
you, they should have a record of it.

that's what I'm thinking. the web side works fine which is not connected to
my ISP.

Please tell us what "can't send" means. Exactly how are you trying?
What happens when you try? If you get an error message, please quote
it verbatim.

SMTP? You mean POP3, I assume.

No. He said his problem is sending email, not receiving. I can imagine
that if his ISP has had complaints or has detected that he is sending
out spam, they might turn off his access to their SMTP server so he
can't sent any more for the time being.

Oops! Of course you're right and I'm wrong. I even realized that he
said sending. I somehow just turned the two around in my head somehow.
Sorry.

are you really that ignorant you do not understand what "send" means?
well duhhhh dude, like I move the little arrow thingy over to where the box
says send and I click on that.

The error I get is the password has been rejected even though it is
correct.

I set up a test account and it works just fine.

the host checked the blacklist and did not find my IP or domain listed.
it is something to do with the client or server, I just can't figure out
which.

Come on, it was a valid question. We can't see what you're doing and
we can't see what's on your screen, so it's up to you to be a little
more descriptive than "can't send".
