The reason for it is if you have software/hardware that won't run on Windows 7, XP Mode can run them, in many cases. Therefore, if you have a customer who has such issues, you can still install it for them, if they want it. Many devices don't have 64 bit drivers, this program allows you to run them. But I do understand where you're coming from, XP is old news. But (mainly for businesses sake) this program must continue, at least through whatever day it is in April, 2014. After that date (a long 4 years away), those users will be own their own. But with careful use, a user may squeeze another two years or more out of XP. There will be some that will use it until it flat out dies, or the system it's installed on is broken for good.

XP mode is useful also as a reference to Windows XP.
