Where are the ... Windows\Start Menu\Programs lists in Win7?

I have never liked the way Windows arranges the shortcuts in the Start
Menus. For many years I have been setting up my own, which mirrors my
work habits. I know there are multiple lists (at least two) and that I
must coordinate them in order to have a clear presentation in Start |
All Programs.

I have found one of the lists in Win7, but there are still unruly
entries which I cannot access. The list I have found is at:
\Users\user\AppData\Roam\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Where is
the other Programs list? I had no problem finding it in 95, 2000, XP,
but I have searched every term in the string, even unhiding files, and
Win7 stubbornly refuses to yield up the information. Please help!

You can follow the links through from:
"C:\Users\All Users"

or go directly to:
"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"

If you don't want to mess with the register and hidden files, this little
freeware utility will do it for you:
http://www.vistastartmenu.com/index.html
It's highly customizable and, despite its name, it works for Windows 7 too.
Hope it helps :-)

But if you prefer to change it yourself, some tips can be found here:

Please reread my letter. That path is mentioned. I was looking for the
path to the second list.

Thanks for the hint, but the list, while perhaps hidden, does not
involve the registry. It's a parallel list to the User/user ... programs
one.

Thanks, but it's not there. In the meantime I constructed a workaround.
It was not as easy as rationalizing the two via a dual-pane file
manager, but it worked.

For years I've reorganized the Start Menu entries also.

When you click on "All Programs", Windows provides a program list by
merging the program list in YOUR profile *and* the program list in the
"All Users"-type profile.

In Windows 7, the program list in YOUR profile is in:
C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
And the program list in the "All Users"-type profile is in:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

These are hidden locations, so be sure you can view hidden folders.

HTH
