Windows Live Mail on Windows 7

Windows Live Mail has been running just fine up until a few days ago.
Now I get the mail update window pop up on the error tab but there are
NO error messages.
If I look at the other tab I see that one of the eMail accounts, the
first on listed, has not updated. However, I can send eMails to that
account and I get the eMails in this "erroring" account just fine.
Other than the annoying popup window and beep that relentlessly
interrupts my typing (come on MS what's the matter with you) it does
not seem to be a problems. At least I have not detected anything yet.

So I have to shut down Live Mail while working so it does not steal my
keystrokes!

Any ideas on what is happening and what to do to fix?
Other than reinstalling Live Mail that is.

Enable error logging so you can see what's going on. I'm not touching
WLM with a ten foot pole, so here's a random Google hit that somewhat
mentions error logging. Use it directly, or use it as a spring board
to find a better site, but however you do it you should enable error
logging. Once enabled, recreate the problem, then examine the log to
see what it contains.

I would have said uninstalling rather than reinstalling...

Hi, BeeJ.

That has been a very long-running problem with WLM! :>(

The fix is simple, once someone tells you the secret. I found it in a
newsgroup like this a couple of years ago.

Just right-click the News Server name in the Folders List (on the left),
choose Properties and clear the X from the box that says, "Include this
account when checking for new messages". Do that for all your news
providers and the problem should disappear.

which is why I use a newsreader client for newsgroups and an email client
for email.
