Does anyone know how to make the tree view pane in windows explorer keep in sync with the folder pane? i.e. when i double click on folders in the main pane to go into them, the tree-view does not update the position and it's very annoying.

Ah i finally figured it out. Go to Organize -> Folder and Search Options. in the Navigation pane section, tick "Show all folders" and "Automatically expand to current folder"
