I installed Windows 7 RC over vista ultimate - quite liked the look of it then had a play around with the new Homegroup - BIG mistake - this caused me to loose all access to my files (the message i got was I don't have security rights to acces the files!) - It looks like there are plently of people who've had the same problem. I also could'nt downgrade to my old Vista unless i formated the drive first so i had to reinstall a fresh copy of W7 - but i'm still left with security lockouts to my files & folders - I have to change the security setting for every file - this is a nightmare - is the problem fixed ? and can you tell me a quick & easy way to assign my user admin rights back to my files so it makes the changes system wide?

Just highlight all the files and mass-alter the security settings.

Did you first take ownership and then grant permissions?

This blog explains it quite well:
