Something to try:
In Windows Explorer, right-click on one of the files you wish to
associate with WMPx64 and select "Open with." Instead of choosing
either of the two displayed "Windows Media Player" options, select
"Choose default program...." Then browse to C:\Program Files\Windows
Media Player and select the applicable "Wmplayer.exe." (This presumes
that WMPx86 is located under the C:\Program Files (x86) folder tree.)
