Welcome to the site Bob

Are you using the RC build, and does it shut down OK if you boot in to safe mode?

Also, check your running processes (free Process Explorer works in Win7) and see if anything is running that might be causing the problem. Have you tried just Logging Off instead of shutdown and does that work or hang?

That's... interesting. What programs do you have installed on your computer that run processes in the background? This is all I can think of. Perhaps there is something that is running upon boot that doesn't like to go away.

Hey ya, I have two suggestions to try and do.
FIrst of all, run cmd as administrator. Secondly type in chkdsk /r
This will repair any bad sectors your hard drive has.
If that doesnt resolve the problem, get a newly burned disk with Windows 7 R/C on it, and burn it at the slowest speed possible.
1) Turn on your PC, and log on to your account.
2) Stick in your newly burned Windows 7 disk.
3) Close the run setup.exe box
4) Click start -> search run -> click it
5) Type in sfc /scannow

Doing this will repair any system files that might be causing your shutdown error.

It sounds like he downloaded & used a motherboard driver. You would need to know if you have a Nvidia or Intel motherboard then go to the respective website and get the proper drivers.
