Very good question Kothapalli and welcome to the forum.

From what I understand the XP mode for W7 Pro is XP service pack 3 (32 bit) regardless of if you are running W7 64 bit or 32 bit as your OS. As you are running it in VM (Virtual Machine) the bit rate does not matter or so I have read.

Sorry missed some of the question. To run XP mode in W7 you need to boot into it via Windows Virtual PC. I assume that you need to download WVPC from the Microsoft website??? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

I'm a Home Premium user not a Pro

I tried the XP Mode and it runs more like an installed program than an operating system once it is installed. It creates a folder in your start menu and if you install anything under the XP Mode, that program's folders appear as subfolders to the XP Mode folder. In this way you can then start that program from just clicking the shortcut. The shortcut starts the XP Mode along with itself and it is pretty seamless
