Hi, I just recently did a clean install of Win 7 Professional. I am getting weird freezes, as if my mouse and keyboard got unplugged, and am forced to restart. I wasn't having any trouble in Vista previously, and I'm pretty sure I have up to date drivers.

My system is ~ 2 years old, though still runs great.

P5Q Pro motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3GHz
2x2Gig RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

The freezes happen at completely random times. I went ~24hrs without one and then all of the sudden got 2 within 5 min of each other. I've tried almost everything I can think of. I realize there is a HUGE thread for Win 7 freezes, but my problem didn't sound like anything they were experiencing. Thanks for any help.

Try this;

from command prompt - right click - run as admin - type - sfc /scannow

see what you come with, this will hopefully repair corrupt system files.

run a repair from DVD also run a DISK CHECK

Possible hardware issues, try this first

Also try disabling any start up program too, and you security software and start from there, it could be your security program or other programs causing the problem.

have you done a memory test? check settings via Bios.

Double check your drivers are updated via manufacturer's website.

even check power settings such as hibernate/sleep mode.

Can you hear any fan noise during the freezes. Sounds like a small overheating problem on the CPU.
