Update Advisor says a computer can be upgraded to W7 Pro or Ultimate, no
mention of "Home" (basic or premium).

Is there a reason for the omission?

If a computer can go W7 Pro can it go up to the Home Premium version or is
there something missing that Pro provides?

What OS (and flavor of said OS) is currently on the machine? That may be
steering the answer the program is giving.

Thank you, that was the missing clue -- the machine was running Vista
Business, so Advisor probably thought no-one could possibly be interested in
upgrading to a Home version of anything, especially Win7.

Backstory -- the computer was a "downgrade" to XP (Pro) but when it was
recently rescuscitated (not by me) it was done to Vista since it still had
the Vista sticker on it. Oh well, that should make it easier to upgrade to 7
of whatever flavor.

Do you think there's any reason Win7 Home Premium wouldn't work?
That's the version I happen to have an upgrade for.
Thanks.

From a technical standpoint if 7-Ult will run then Home Premium should be no
problem. I don't however know if the Home Premium upgrade will run (or
refuse) so you may need to do the clean\double install method.

I'll just have to give it a try. Nothing to lose but time & sanity; there's
nothing on that system but the "system" (& virus s/w).
