Win XP Home to Win 7 question

Am running XP Home 32 bit now and was wondering if Win 7 upgrade or
full version is needed to go from XP to 7? Also does Win 7 come in a
32 bit version??

I tried putting some of my progs on wife's 64 bit Vista and a lot of
them would not run on it.

There is no direct route from XP to 7, but you could go from XP to Vista to
7. If you are running 32-bit XP, then all of the upgrades would have to be
32-bit also unless you want to do a clean installation. Windows 7 and Vista
both have 32-bit versions.

If you want to use that method of upgrading your PC, you need to run the
Vista Upgrade Advisor

and the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

to see if your hardware will even run either of the two OS's, and to see if
your software (or at least most of it) is compatible with Windows 7.

Also, you'll need to check your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website for
Windows 7 drivers. If they don't have all the drivers for the hardware
that's installed, you may or may not be able to find the ones you'll need
without frustrating yourself to tears.

There is no upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7. You can migrate
but you cannot upgrade. If you have Windows XP (installed or its
install CD), the install of Windows 7 does a *fresh* installation. The
OS partition gets wiped when Windows 7 gets installed. A data transfer
wizard is provided that is to help you move your data files into the
fresh install of Windows 7; however, if you want to ensure your data
files survive the migration, do a backup of them onto other media before
the migration so you can restore them from that backup media.

It would be interesting for us to learn which of your programs wouldn't
run under Vista 64 bit.
I always install Windows 7 64 bit on C: and most other programs on D:
An advantage is when I reinstall the operating system I don't lose the
data of the programs installed on D:.

I see you use "X-Newsreader: Forte Agent 2.0/32.652". So instead of
installing Agent to Vista using the normal C:\Program Files, create a
folder C:\Agent and copy your Agent files to this folder then make
shortcuts and see if Agent 2 will run, if Agent won't run try running
the installation program again to C:\Agent overwriting the existing
Agent files.
