After installing Win 7 Home, new install - not upgrade - I find three folders that contain a lot of data. They are: Dummy.197, Dummy.291 & Dummy.939.

Vista was the previous OS and I did not reformat the HDD to install Win 7. Could these folders be from a previous installation of an OS or did they get created when I installed Win 7?

The big question is, are they necessary or can they be deleted? One folder alone exceeds 50Gb in size.

Thanks for responding.

That depends on whether or not you want to keep the info in the folders.

If it were me, I would have done a clean install along with a reformatted hard drive.

You'll save a ton of space and the install runs smoother too.

I recommend you bite the bullet, and do a fresh install with a fully reformatted hard drive.

They are not W7 folders. If there is nothing in there you want then delete them.

Though I agree with Nibs, I like to install to a nice freshly formatted HD myself.
