I did manage to do a Windows backup (not Acronis) on this drive, but there was an error code 0x8100002F. On the notepad, there were references about Charles\mydownloads something. I don't know if it is got to do with most of my downloads being 32 bit and my OS is 64 bit or what. The flag to solve PC issue is still showing. I'm wondering if it was my antivirus or something that caused it. Well, I know that the drive is working anyway. Sometime tomorrow, I'll wipe that one out and start over, using the Acronis program. I get a weekly newsletter from Leo Notenboom "Ask Leo" is the name of it. He highly praises Acronis backup software and recommends it for anyone. But I'm going to need some help to make sure that I do it right. And I'm also going to backup to DVD's as well. When I had the program open, I remember seeing it as an option. Leo always says to make at least two backups, and not store them together, as a disaster may happen. He's fairly smart on some of these things, I've read his column for a couple of years now and the advice he gives out is good. Each and every issue, he harps on backup. I've lost a photo album not long ago, and since then I've yet to store anything important on a computer until I learn the art of backup. And being this PC is new, it's time I learned. I don't have a reinstall disc like with XP Pro. I do have an emergency boot disc, but that's all.

OK - I'm not quiet sure why you re-posted. The answer to my question is not in the text.

Yes, the PC does have an option to create a recovery disc. I created a repair disc from the options list and also I created a Windows 7 Emergency Repair Disc that was mentioned elsewhere on this forum. But I have not created a full backup, as the DVD's that I bought were the wrong kind. I tried, that's how I found out. You can't use DVD+RW discs for this task, the manual said to use the DVR+R ones. I'm going to buy some of those. And I'm going to backup using my external drive with the Acronis software. So now I hope that you see where I'm at on this.

On my first attempt at backup, I done it on my external drive without using the Acronis program. I used the default Windows backup. It almost completed, or did complete (I don't know). It gave the error code: 0x8100002f , there was a file having to do with downloads on the notepad that caused the error. I bought the proper DVD's to do the backup with, but need to take care of this error first, as I don't want to waste a bunch of discs.

Again, I attempted a backup on my WD drive, using the Windows backup. It went all the way to the end and still the same error: 0x8100002F. This time I wrote the contents of the notepad down. "Backup Encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\Charles\Downloads. Error: (The system cannot find the file specified.(0x80070002)) I tried to find this file myself and couldn't find it. And I typed this second code (from the notepad) into the Bing search and the code stands for all kinds of problems as far back a XP and Vista regarding updating and backup. One little file is keeping me from a successful backup. And apparently a non existing one. What am I to do here?

Hey, I don't know what I did different, but my backup finally went through! I did nothing different at all. I have it on that WD Drive. Now I can use those DVD's that I bought to make a second copy. It took four times for this to go through. At least I have a backup now.

I don't know. It was just one file in question. I searched the code on Bing and a lot of users have had this problem. It said to open the libraries so they could reset themselves. I did that and ran it again and it completed. I checked the drive and there are two folders (CHARLES-PC and Windows Image Backup) and one small file (Media ID) 1KB. When I make the discs, I'll know for sure of things. I'm just glad that it's finally going right, I was starting to worry.
