Want to change the Win Live Mail

I tried Right click on a Desktop icon and/or a program shortcut on the Start
menu, Properties, Change icon.

But I never found the the location of available icons after clicking on the
'Browse'
button.

Took me to System 32 folder but these old eyes could not see where the
'icons'
where stored.

Would some kind person set me straight please?

When you get to the System32 folder scroll down and select imageres.dll
That's full of icons.

Actually, almost any DLL file has icons embedded, so scout around!
For instance, especially in Windows\System32 you may find
BsLangInDepRes.dll, which got installed from a Bluetooth app.
If you use that file, you will have a nice selection of Bluetooth icons
to use for your folder(s).

There are also gobs of icon files available free for download that have
icons for specific uses, such as medical, game, file, disk, etc.
They are usually stored in a DLL to keep them organized.
There are also individual programs that can manipulate the DLLs
in many ways. Starting with Vista (I believe), the OS's allow you to use
much higher resolution icons.
There may even be animated icons available, but I haven't seen any, yet.

For my Windows Live Mail which I have pinned to the taskbar, there is a shortcut in:

C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

(You would, of course, need to replace [User Name] with something appropriate for your computer)

I have changed the icon of that shortcut to the stamped addressed envelope icon in:

%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll

A picture's worth a thousand words, but if you only need a four-letter-word, is that too much
information? The wrong picture is worth three letters and a couple punctuation marks-- Huh?!

XP thing. Anyway, while Googling icons, dlls etc. I came across this website:

It lists all the Win7 dlls and any images etc. that they contain.

I sit corrected, moricons.dll is in my Win7 install.
I was searching for ' moreicons '. Doh!
