wallpaper slideshow order?

I have just done battle with the wallpaper picture sequencer. I thought
(I wanted to include some of their rather nice pictures as well as my
own, since they're there) that it was actually a good place to use the
new "library" concept, so I put my pictures in the folder that was
linked into the pictures library, and added C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
into that library too (that's where the pictures are, though I don't
think I'd ever have found them without a hint from one of the guide
books recommended here recently: just searching for .jpg files didn't
find them).

I then discovered (eventually: the error window telling me so was behind
other things) that "you can't add system folders to a library", or
something like that. So I went looking for a system attribute to turn
off, but it doesn't work like that; changing (about two levels down in
properties) that particular folder's _owner_ from SYSTEM to
Administrators finally did the job. (Yes, I know you shouldn't tamper
with system files, but a few wallpapers files shouldn't matter, I
thought.)

So I've got all the pictures in the changer, and can select or deselect
individual ones.

But, of course, I can't change the _sequence_: all the pictures from any
one folder come up one after the other, whereas I'd like to be able to,
for example, interleave them.

I did try my old friend Panorama32, which has worked from Windows 95 on;
it seemed to install fine under 7, but doesn't work (it builds an -
editable - list of images, and counts down, but when it passes 0 the
wallpaper doesn't change. I didn't really expect it to work - it is
_very_ old software.)

So: is it possible to change the _order_ in the wallpaper slideshow?

I went through that palaver some months ago, and I got just what I
wanted eventually from Google Photos Screensaver, set with Collage view.

Thanks. I guessed there might be some modern equivalent of panorama32,
given that the built-in offering - which ought to have rendered any such
unnecessary - is so clunky.

Hang on, though - you said Screensaver; I'm after a wallpaper changer.

Have you tried free Second Nature (www.secondnature.com) wallpaper changer?

Not that I've seen. This might work. I haven't tried it on a Win7 system,
but it works well on WinXP.

I hadn't heard of it, but it seems to be a screensaver.

Well, it says "It will work happily on all 32 and 64-bit versions of
Windows from Windows 98 onwards (except Windows 7 Starter Edition).",
and looks to be what (or rather more than) I'm after, so I'll give it a
try; thanks.

Have you tried naming the pictures sequentially? Such as
"001_pictureB.jpg", "002_pictureA.jpg", and "003_pictureC.jpg"?

I typically play my background pics in random order anyways.

It's both a screensaver and a wallpaper changer. Second Nature will gladly
sell you (for a quite reasonable price) some beautiful images in a
proprietary format, but you can also add your own BMP and JPG files.

Ah, thanks; the website didn't make that clear (to me, anyway). John's
Background Switcher
(http://johnsadventures.com/software/backgroundswitcher/) that someone
else kindly mentioned also looks good.
