I had an idea that I copied...errr, ripped off...errr, well, anyway, the idea is a possible Chat Room for this forum. Weather it is hosted on the W7 servers or linked offsite to a chat room provider, I think it could be helpful for solving problems or just having a quick chat with the other W7 members.

I think that would be a great idea (regardless of its origin ). However if a chat room was started, I think we would need a few more designated people monitoring with the ability to boot the unwanted spammers and disturbing guest. I'm not sure I would have the ability to do that on an Off-site Chat Room Provider. Then again I have no idea what would be involved in doing this, so I could be wrong.

Use IRC and you can have mods with room ops.

In my experience with modding at other forums, the chat is only used by very few members and has not been a resource for problem solving but only a 'shout box'.

Unfortunately my experience with a chat section on other sites is that it isn't often used and it can require quite a bit of work to monitor as it's live. If there were lots of people wanting to use this feature then I might consider adding it, but I'm very hesitant at the moment because of those complications.

I do appreciate you posting ideas here though

Are there any Windows-specific tech help chat rooms out there, in general?

I throw my vote in with Roban and Ian. I have had the same experiences.

I'm against.
Chat rooms are hard to keep "clean". And anyway, a chat room is a chat room, and a forum a forum, so what would be the point of a forum, if everybody else goes on the chat?

Cheers,
Fire Cat

I've never been fond of chat rooms. I think my problem is my lack of typing skills. Simply can't keep up. Everytime I post in this forum or others I spell check and proof read so as not to post goop.

That brings me to my next question but I'll start a new thread.
