Video doesn't run on Win 7 64 bit

I cannot view you tube videos or others on my new Win 7 64 bit PC using IE8; I can view everything fine using Firefox but not IE8. I understnd this is the norm but is there any fix to this irritating problem?

I'm currently using Google Chrome at the moment as I was told it's the best web browser available! Will I be able to carry on using Chrome on 64?

Yes, you'll be able to use Chrome with no problems.

Most browsers at this time are 32-bit based. There is IE8 64-bit, which comes with the Windows 7 x64 install and also Firefox's Minefield 64-bit browser.

The problem is Adobe's Flash application is not available yet in a 64-bit version for those browsers.

Java is available in 64-bit as Sun Microsystems (prior to the Oracle buyout) was farsighted enough to get 'er done.

Try using IE8 32bit instead of the 64bit version. They are both installed on your machine.

There is really no speed difference regarding the 32 or 64 bit browsers, yet.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just kick back and enjoy the ride.

In order to play videos in a browser you need some form of video engine. Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight are the two I'm aware of, Google may have it's own (I would have no idea). What engines are supported is site specific. Generally if you don't have what the site wants it will offer a link to install it.

I can see youtube perfectly fine in IE8, 32-bit version w/ flash installed, and in Firefox, 32-bit w/ flash.

There is a beta version of adobe flash available for the 64-bit IE browser but to my knowledge the production version has yet to be released.

32-bit browsers work perfectly fine in a 64-bit OS and I would guess-timate that currently 99% of W7 users use a 32-bit browser.

There is Flash for x64 browsers. Search Bing or Google for Adobe Square. It's an early version from Adobe Labs. I've been using it since the end of August on IE8 x64. I just don't use it that often as Site Advisor Plus and AI RoboForm Pro won't even show up in a x64 browser. Adobe has a IE & Non-IE version of it in both 32 bit at top of page and 64 bit at bottom of page. On Google select 1st result.
