Has anyone succeeded in using USBcap in Windows 7 64 bit?

USBcap is a usb device that allows you to connect your PC usb port to a
TV or video output and record on the PC.

Undoubtedly, Windows 7 changed some intermediate layer software
enough, to screw things up. Hard to say whether there is enough
backward compatibility built in, for just any device to work.
Windows would still be using UVC at the lowest level, so the
device may be a "Composite Device", with a video and audio device
below that. But then, the intermediate layers, will determine whether
simple useful utilities like "AMCap" can still work. You'd be surprised
how many times AMCap works, when other things don't. So being
compatible with that sample application, would be a good thing.

The main problem I have with most platforms, is adjusting parameters on
the device. In Windows, I may get the device defaulting to some
low resolution, unsuited to actual usage. You really need a control
panel of some sort, to make changes, and not all capture software
has that. The capture software may assume you're using a control panel
thing that came with the device, to make the changes.

If your version of Windows 7 supported "WinXP Mode", you can redirect
a USB device inside WinXP Mode, and then use Windows XP software to
work with the device. That kind of a virtual machine, can give you
90% of the performance of a single core on your processor, so may be
fast enough to do data capture. It wasn't always like that, and the
first virtual machines I used years ago, the ratio was around 10%
performance level, unsuited to data intensive work. Modern virtual
machine environments (maybe even VirtualBox), give you more
of the CPU power you paid for. So if your version of Windows 7 supports
WinXP Mode, you have a second option to searching high and low for
Windows 7 solutions.

FWIW and in case someone else is in the same situation here is the

It installed fine.
I cannot guarantee these files are safe, but they passed my tests.

From the technical details (expanded) on that web page:

Package Contents: 1 x EasyCAP USB 2.0 Video Adapter with Audio, 1 x USB
Cable, 1 x Quick Installation Guide, 1 x CD-ROM

Yet they don't bother to list the supported operating systems for the
"installation" (driver and software) for that product.

That site says it is an HDE product sold through an Amazon store. I
went to http://www.hdeshop.com/ and searched on "easycap" and found:

which has a lower price than at Amazon. On the HDE product web page,
look at what it says about operating systems supported under the
"Features" section. Ta da! Bummer.
