I am currently running on Windows XP Home Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build
2600. One component of the system is an external hard drive:
Eagle | Consus W-Series
IDE to USB2.0 & Firewire IEEE1394
External Storage System - 20GB NTFS
Model=[ET-CSWU2F-BK]
In a few months I plan to transfer to a new computer with a WIN 7, 64bit system
(probably WIN7 home premium). In order to migrate data, mail (outlook), favorites
documents etc., I want to use the MS "Easy Transfer" program to move data from the old XP 32bit system via the External Storage System (above).
How can I determine if the Eagle | Consus W-Series, Model=[ET-CSWU2F-BK],
External Storage data is compatible with a 64bit system?
Will I need a new driver?
Thank you for any info you can provide regarding this question.
George

Is that an enclosure that you put a hard drive in? How old is it?

W7 is compatible with USB/Firewire but you may need to find 64 bit drivers for that device.

Welcome to the Windows 7 Forums website - gcucak!

Regarding your question about your Eagle external hard drive enclosure:
1. Since it is both USB and Firewire, the drivers are native to Windows 7. The first time you use them the driver(s) will be installed by Windows 7.

2. You won't need to worry about whether it's x64 or x86.

3. Just plug-n-go, you'll be good!

I have three external hard drive enclosures I've been using for years.

Don't worry it will work just fine!

Hi yodap,
Thanks for the reply. To answer your question, the Eagle hard drive enclosure is 2yrs old, aluminum casing, 9" L x 51/2" H x 13/4" W.
I just got another reply from another source (Nibiru 2012) who assured
me that the Eagle external hard drive enclosure I described will be compatible
with WIN7 and work on a 64 bit system.
Regards-George

Hi Nibiru2012.
Thanks for the information regarding the compatibility of migrating data to WIN7 from an XP system using an external hard drive such as I described.
The positive information was very reassuring since you obviously have in depth knowledge of the process, that was one potential headache I was worried about.
Regards-George
