'Upgrading' from WLM 2011 to WLM 2009

Hi,

I've got a Dell desktop that came with Win7HP installed. When I configured
WLM, it appeared as WLM 2009. But, when I did an autoupdate, I saw that
there was an update for WLM, to which I said OK. This turned my simple WLM
2009 interface into WLM 2011 with the cluttered, candy-like ribboned
interface. I'm not sure if a restore will bring back WLM 2009, or if I
should uninstall WLM 2011, and then reinstall WLM 2009.

Should I run into trouble in either event, I have looked for WLM 2009 on
the inet, but even when it says 'download WLM 2009 here', it always turns
out to be WLM 2011. Anyone have a URL for WLM 2009?

TIA

Uninstall WLM 2011 and then reinstall WLM 2009. All your email and
setting will still be there. Don't do a System Restore. It's not
intended to be an application uninstaller.

I have a copy of the WLM 2009 install file that I'd be happy to
share with you. I assure you it's safe and virus-free, but since I'm
just a stranger on Usenet, you have no reason to trust me. If you'd
like it and/or if you can't find it anywhere else, let me know and
I'll put it up on my web space for you. It's about 138 MB in size.

Two points:

1. Although your computer came with Windows Live Mail installed, be
aware that Windows Live Mail is *not* part of Windows 7. It was Dell's
choice to install it.

2. Windows Live Mail is only one of the many choices available to you.
In my view, almost *every* other e-mail program is better than Windows
Live Mail. I think Windows Live Mail, either 2009 or 2011, is about
the worst choice available, and you would be well-advised to choose a
different one rather than looking for Windows Live Mail 2009.

So here's my advice: ignore my opinion and everyone else's opinion.
Try several e-mail programs and choose the one *you* like best.

Boris,
the MS mail MVP, Winston, frequents
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop, and maintains a blog with links
to everything about WLM. Here is a link to the Downloads page, where you
can find 2009:

Thanks for the advice and offer, Nil. I see that KCB has provided a link
to WLEssentials 2009. I did go there, and it is indeed the 2009 version.
I uninstalled 2001, and reinstalled 2009. All worked out fine.

Thanks again.

OK, glad you got it. I bookmarked his link, too.
