Upgrading from Vista to Win7 on HP Pavillion

Is it possible to do a clean instsll with an
upgrade DVD provided by HP?

I don't know how Hewlett-Packard may have modified the pattern, but any
retail Win7 upgrade disk straight from Microsoft will let you do either an
upgrade (with a qualifying Windows already installed on the computer) or a
clean install.

Yes. And although HP recommends upgrading I like clean installs.

Before you start I recommend visiting the HP web site and downloading
all Win 7 drivers for your system, then burn it to a CD or DVD.

If you are just test driving, do like I did. Remove the hard drive and
put a new one in. Then install the Vista onto a new drive using the
recovery CDs. Patch up. Then upgrade.

Then add in the drivers from HP.

Then test drive. If you like Win 7, then add the old drive back in as a
second disk. If you don't like, put the original disk back in as
primary and the second new disk as secondary for a two disk system.

Me, I reverted back to Vista. Didn't see that Win 7 offered anything of
benefit, looked like Vista regurgitated with more menu changes. Didn't
run any faster, in fact my benchmarks inicated zero differnece.

But then I hit the display driver issue where some gadget bugs would
mess up and figured Win 7 is the same as Vista so I reverted to Vista
knowing re-adding all the apps and customization wasn't worth my time.

They changed the scaling and it was screwed up. Big step backwards.
And no driver updates for the buggyness. Why should I be a Micro$oft
beta tester? While I was currious of Win 7, doesn't mean I have to run
it does it? You are going to run after me and bite me? LOL!

In any case, Win 7 is Vista. Not enought difference or improvements to
make it any better (or worse) really. Just another version of hype for
M$ $$. Just wanted to test it to see if I should keep the MSFT, decided
to sell for a nice profit.

Still, I would rather have a 64 bit version of XP with the appropriate
and up to date drivers.

answered questions that I was yet to ask.
Never would have thought about dealing with
the drivers that way.

I've been lurking here for quite some time
hoping to learn what Vista users thot about
Win 7. Your input was/is priceless for me.
