I'm new to Win7. The update window is asking me to install an update
that is already installed. Where should I look for a solution?

And what happens when you let it install a second time? It may be a
re-release of an update.

Consider hiding the update.

Or a 64-bit version of something that already has a 32-bit version
installed? (Or vice versa.) But yeah, I would allow it to install and
see what happens.

It's not hard.

When an update is visible in the Available Updates window, just choose
"Hide this update".

But you have to be set to "Let me choose which updates to install", or
any setting that doesn't install automatically:

Go to
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Update -> Change
settings

Or he/she could consider providing the exact error message rather than
allowing us to guess.
