While installing Microsoft FSX half way thru the 2nd installation disk I get:

Error notification 0x80040707
Decription: DLLfunction call crashed: DSetup.DirectXSetupA.
Setup will now terminate.

Seems odd that Microsoft Windows 7 has probs with a Microsoft product.
I was able to install and run it OK on the earlier Windows 7 7000.
Maybe I should not have installed MS Net Framework 4 Beta 1.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas about this?

regards
Richard.

Try installing the DirectX 9 redistributable package: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...7-c693d210f616

Thanks you for your help, Thrax.
And I did what you suggested but still the same result.

This time I paid more attention and noticed that the installation of FSX had finished and it started installing DirectX 9.0C when it stopped.

When I opened the DirectX diagnostic tool in System32 I was amazed to find out that Windows 7 is using DirectX 11.

Anyway it looks as if I will have to wait to fly in FSX for while.

So its back to FS2004 at least that works OK with Windows 7.

my setup is:
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP35-DS3R
Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Graphic card - Asus EN9800GTX+
Ram - 4gig
x64 based computer

Once again thanks for trying to help,

regards
Richard

This bug was fixed by build 7127. FSX now runs great on my comp, actually better that it did on either XP or Vista.

There is a hack around that purports to work in builds before 7127.

Try Google-ing "dxdiag hack".

Or "up" your installed build.

Cheers!!

That statement is no longer relevant. Uping the build was because of the different builds during Beta and Release Candidate testing of Windows 7 before it was released to the general public. Now there is only one build with several updates. By the end of the year we should also have Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7.
