My PC came with Windows 7 installed, but when I changed the BIOS SATA setting from IDE to AHCI, Windows 7 would not boot.

I understand that W7 does support AHCI, but the support is turned off in the Registry if not installed with AHCI 'on' in the BIOS.

Is there a simple way of turning AHCI support on again?

Rather quiet in here....

A helpful person elsewhere has pointed me in the direction of a simple solution:
