Windows Live mail requests password constantly!

S

srt

Hi again,

One of my email accounts constantly requests the password which I type in
and its accepted.
I have the "remember" box ticked in the accounts but it still keeps asking
for it when I open up live mail.
I tried re-setting it but its still requesting :(
Any ideas what to do to clear it up as all other accounts function fine and
this one does too - - - after I have entered it again into the pop up box!
tia.
Stuart.

Type of account ???
- Pop3 (non Hotmail type account, e.g. your isp, Gmail, etc.)
- Pop3 (Hotmail type account)
- Http (Hotmail type account using the DeltaSync server)
- IMAP

If a Hotmail type account using either Http or Pop3
- Close WLM, logon via mail.live.com or hotmail.com if presented with a
validation request (enter the necessary characters, return to the web ui
inbox and send a test message), then retest in WLM but only after removing
the pw (in the email account properties). When prompted enter the pw and
click the remember box.

The encrypted value stored in the registry is corrupt. You entering the
credentials manually into the fields will not replace the corrupted
registry entry.

Applicable ?
Data corruption, Yes. KB article applicability, I don't think so (maybe for
OE and Outlook, but not WLM)

For WLM 2011 (the op's version) two methods should resolve it.
If Hotmail type account (see previous post about web UI validation)
If Pop3...back up (copy) all messages to Storage folders, remove account*,
close WLM, open WLM, recreate account, move messages back into account
folders.
* Removing a pop3 account in WLM removes the account and all folders and
messages for the account in WLM and deletes all messages and folders from
the hard drive (i.e. Backup all messages to Storage folders prior to account
removal)

Where are the passwords stored that you elect to "remember" in WLM?

Hmmn!
Guys,
Ok - - I have the mail account I am referring to on "Yahoo" but also in
"WLM".
I tried - Removing the remember pswd in the WLM properties box then closed
WLM.
I went to Yahoo and logged into the same account and left this open.
I then opened WLM and when the pop up asked for the pswd I entered it and I
get access.
I then close WLM.
I open WLM and I get the same pop up requesting pswd :(

Did I do that wrong?
If it is a corrupt pswd how might I correct it - - and I don't know where
they are stored :(

I just did a "

close WLM, open WLM, recreate account, move messages back into account
folders." - - That worked :)
Thank you very much.

srt,
Thanks for the feedback.
That method usually works every time.
The web login validation necessity (if in play) is only applicable to
Hotmail type accounts (not Yahoo)
Also glad to hear you chose to backup your messages in advance and the
password is being remembered again.
