When one opens Search via the Start menu, the list of files found disappears once you open one of the files.
How can one keep the list of found files open so that one can click on all the files without having to do the search over each time after opening each file found?

There's no way to do this for the search field in the Start Menu. You'd think it would be an option you could enable, but the numbskulls at Microsoft aren't there yet.

What you can do is use Windows + F to launch a search window and then type in your search string. The results shown in that search window will remain even if you double-click to open one of them.

Alternatively, you can use a more advanced search tool like Agent Ransack to look for stuff.

Windows F sounds good, but what is "window"? Is that a key?
Is there a method to open the start menu and do the same thing with F?

By Windows I meant the "Win" key which is usually located between left-hand side Ctrl and Alt.

Just FYI, even that isn't an ideal solution. If you open a search window (Win+R) and in the search results, if you click on a folder listed, then your search is lost & is replaced by the explorer window.

One way to keep your search results around is to change the windows explorer settings. Go to Organize > Folder & Search options and under the General tab switch it to "open each folder in its own window". Of course you may not like having it work that way either but since the two have been merged you have to pick one way or the other.

Try this application and see if it works for you.

Everything search engine

What is "Everything"?

"Everything" is an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows.
Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name "Everything").
You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed.
