-> Where are the Windows Update backup files?

S

Steve JORDI

Hi,
under XP, backup files from Windows Updates where hidden in the System
directory under a name like $NT_9834928743990

I'd like to clean up Win 7 from all backup updates.
Where are they stored? Directory? Filenaming convention?

Thanks for any help

Sincerely,
Steve JORDI

It looks like they're here:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Dave,
thanks, yes, I think that those are the patches...
I'll move them somewhere else and see whether everything is fine
without them.

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features > Installed Updates.

I was talking about the files themselves, like the $NTnnnn directories
in Windows XP.
The control panel will just show a list of what has been installed.
Those are not the actual files themselves. Thanks anyway.
