i don't have the acitivation key for my windows 7 and i bought it for 1.25 at a parking lot sale and the motherboard was shot and i don't know wheither or not if downloading the windows 7 ultimate will help? and do i need an activiation code for it?

An actual DVD or the download versions you can get online are all essentially worthless without a product key. Not only that, but if that license is linked to the dead motherboard then it cannot legally be transferred to another computer, even if you had the product key, unless it is the W7 FULL version. But at least you are only out $1.25.

Most of those are illegal copies. It may work for a while then it can be tracked by Microsoft then you are out already.
