HP doesn't offer W7 drivers for that laptop; you should download the 32-bit or 64-bit Vista drivers and try those. EDIT: You need Conexant drivers for this laptop, not RealTek.

OK, I don't recommend this for most people but I cannot find the right driver.

What you might try is a product called DeviceDoctor.

READ THIS FIRST: DeviceDoctor is not perfect and actually messed up my system so it took me 45min-hour to recover in safe mode. It worked for 2 drivers but then the third driver messed up my machine. One of the drivers that did work was Audio, so what I recommend is that you first create a Restore Point on your computer. Then install and run DeviceDoctor ONLY to update your SOUND driver; do not allow it to download/install other drivers. Then reboot and make sure everything works. If there is a problem then use the restore point to recover.

DeviceDoctor

Also be careful when installing - it adds a toolbar by default and most people do not want it so be sure to uncheck that.

If he could give us the FULL model number it would help! There are quite a few 5000 series models at the HP website. Plus the ones that end in the "CTO" suffix mean Custom To Order, which means there are several versions of sound chips probably.

It would REALLY be helpful if people requesting help would give as much information as possible relating to their problems, then all this time wouldn't be wasted back and forth.

See what I mean...

Are you using a 32-bit OS, because what I've read it seems thee aren't 64-bit drivers?

Have you tried Microsoft Fix-it for Audio problems?
