How do you see what ports are open?

You can download and run Windows Live Safety Scanner, be sure to select FULL scan, it may take awhile to run. All errors (registry entries, open ports, etc.) will be displayed after the scan. It may even detect the problem in your previous post. Afterwards, if you choose to repair the items, it will create a restore point, then repair the items. It's a good starting point for those with computer performance related problems to diagnose and repair. And it's free, from Microsoft.

Is Windows Live Safety Scanner a on line scanner or do you need to install it catilley1092 ?

You need to download it, it will install itself. There is the one for older systems, be sure to get the one for Vista & Windows 7. While scanning, you can use your PC. It is a Microsoft product.
