Different views for different folders

In XP and Vista, I could set the view for a folder without
changing the view setting for other folders. For example, one
folder under "My Pictures" could use the list view, another the
detailed view, etc.

Is there a way to do that with Win 7?

That's too bad that there isn't another way.

With Vista and XP, there is a checkbox "Remember each folder's
view settings" in the View sheet of Folder Options.

Folders do remember different views, I suspect you are in a library, and
what you view in a library is consistent. In other words if you navigate
to the actual folder from the C:\ root and set the view it will maintain
the set view, BUT if you open the "pictures library" and set the view,
all the folders will be displayed in the "chosen view" for the "library"
not the chosen view for the folder. And if you change the view while in
the "library" all the folders will be shown in the selected view. So in
a nutshell, if you want to see different views you need to view them
(the folders) outside the convenience of the "library viewer"

That explains it.

I have moved stuff out of Libraries and created shortcuts to them
under Favorites. Problem solved.
