Hi all,

Trying to set static IP addresses on my machines (4) on my home network running a Windows Home Server but Win7 defaults to a 'Public Profile' ( a problem also in Vista I believe) How the hell do you change that 'public' profile (error message DHCP server not switched on - actually IT IS!!) to a 'home' profile .... or is there another way???

TIA

Apart from that, VERY unimpressed with Vista .... VERY impressed with Win7

Jack

Ah sorry .. just realised missing info ... 2 machines running Win7 - 1 Vista Home Premium - 1 XP - Windows Server ... on the server

Hi All,

Managed to resolve this, saw a post in another forum and tried it out ....

Turn OFF DHCP server inside router (mine is a Linksys WAG 200G) set IP addresses on all interested machines, get network running smoothly and ping all machines, turn DHCP server back on inside router ... all works fine, any additional machines (say guests) will now pick up an allocated IP from DHCP outside of the allocated static range.

Next problem: Sleep/Hibernate .. wont Sleep/Hiber .. will Sleep/Hiber ... restart every 2 mins, wont start every 2 mins, but hangs when it returns ...... I LOVE computers
