I am running windows 7 with 32 bit processor and am receiving an error
message from Spybot. Spybot cannot clear it but says it could do so if I
logged on as the administrator.
I find this hard to believe as there are no other users of the computer and
guest account is disabled.
Spybot suggests right clicking on the name in the start menu and selecting
run as administrator but that option is not there.
I do not think that the errors are significant but would like to clear them.
Does anyone know how I can get Spybot to run with me as the administrator?
Thank you

There should be a "Run as Administrator" in the right click context menu.

http://www.bleepstatic.com/tutorials...ick-method.jpg

When I go to the User Accounts control panel, and check my account type,
it says I'm a member of Administrators. Is that perhaps what
prevents that right click context entry from showing up ?

I suppose a registry entry that controls it could be damaged. That
might be another way to make it go away.

As far as I know, a "UAC prompt" is a gate, but doesn't grant permission.
Permissions are granted based on the account settings, and what group you're in.
If a user account has limited enough permissions, they can't do very much.

If your computer is part of a Domain, then control over what you can
do, can be applied globally. If the computer is a machine from work,
it could be "locked down" on you.

Just a guess,
Paul

An administrator is NOT the same as being a useradministrator . Think
of this situation as W7 trying to protect the system by not allowing you
full access unless you specifically ok it (same idea as not running
Linux as Root). Normal useradministratior can do 99.9% of the tasks
required, only very seldomly do you need full administrator rights

If you right click your spybot icon or right click its name in all
programs you will be given a drop down menu which will include the
option to run as administrator.

Hierarchy of permissions :-
Guest
User
Useradninistrator (the normal, full[ish] control for solo systems)
Administrator (only entered when required )

the spybot folder?

The difference in right click menus between the Spybot folder and
SpybotSD.exe

Advice: Ditch Spybot and download the free version of Malwarebytes.

Spybot S&D has some value still. I like its Inoculate feature, where it
maintains a list of bad-guy sites for your hosts file and browser's
block lists. But as a general Malware scanner, the product is tired and
past its prime.

"Run as Administrator" is more likely to apply to an executable,
than a folder. "SpybotSD.exe" is an executable file and an excellent
candidate for elevation.

Folders have "ownership", and that does things like control access
to the folder. But a folder is not an executable thing, it's more
of a container for other things. The other things can be simple
data or could be executable files even.

So what you see in rcc.jpg screenshot, looks perfectly normal.

That's exactly what soup was telling the OP...

He wondered if the OP might be confused (as did I).
