Although Thunderbird and Norton Internet Security do a good job of filtering spam to my junk folder I still want to find these idiots, break their legs, reach inside their throats and turn them inside out, cut off their fingers, break their kneecaps with a baseball bat and otherwise render them in pig fat.

Do you think I am over reacting?

No, not at all.

Can I stand beside you and take my turn?

I use a program called Mailwasher Pro. It downloads the headers of the emails and allows you to tag them as junk, friend etc. Has it's own database which you can dd to every time you mark something as spam, it will also learn from your selections.

It will bounce marked spam and block future ones from the same source... I've been very happy with it. You have to option to delete on a click in case something gets caught you want to keep and it also has a deleted item you can restore from.

I used to use Mailwasher Pro in the past before I just used my browser for my email.

Gmail does a good job of filtering spam.

I know mailwasher. I used it years ago and unfortunately it doesn't support Thunderbird by importing accounts and I have 14 of them. Lazy me.

Hotmail (also known as Windows Live Mail) does a decent job of filtering the junk out of my box. Operamail isn't bad, either. But Yahoo, forget it! I get 8 to 10 of those "foreign inheritances" daily. Many are not even filtered from my "good" mail. What I do to keep these emails going there is by seldom giving out my "good" email addresses. I use Yahoo for many everyday dealings, because many sites sell your email address to others. It was the same reason out regular house mail boxes were flooded with junk mail daily. Keep "disposable" email addresses for those you buy from, keep secret ones for important things. Other than that, I haven't found a way to stop the garbage from flowing to Yahoo.

Hotmail is the account. Windows Live Mail is the client. They are not the same thing.

Use a client (in this case: Windows Live Mail) to setup and receive email from an account (in this case: Hotmail).
