Sound Missing

I have seen a number of posts relating to missing sound but none that
seem to relate directly to the problem I am having.

My son just got a new HP desktop computer running W7. Everything
appears to work except the sound. The speaker icon in the task bar has
a red symbol next to it and if you highlight it you get a message that
says there is no speaker attached to the system. I have tried a couple
of different speakers that I know work but the system does not seem to
recognize that there is any speaker attached.

Any idea of how to trouble-shoot this would be appreciated.

Dig deeper into the sound cards properties It May be set to Front speakers
headphones or Hdmi

If it's a new machine and is behaving like this right out of the box, I
would consider returning it for replacement.

I had the same problem tried to find a cure via Device Manager, which
seemed a logical way to to it.
It didn't work, Device Manager told me all was well and I had the latest
driver.

It was finally fixed by reinstalling the Realtek (on-board Sound) from the
motherboard disc.
It first un-installs it, then re-installs it.
All is well now.

If this is a new machine I would be calling the support line of the
company that made it, or returning it to the store for an exchange.

``.It is possible to mute the sound from the keyboard. On mine it is in the
extreme upper right corner. When sound is muted by this means, a red
indicator appears adjacent to the sound icon in the Task Bar...give it a
try.

But would that cause the message that there is no speakers attached to
the system? That's what I get if I hover the mouse over the speaker
icon in the task bar.

Same here (no speakers), but after re-installing the driver from the
motherboard disc the speakers appeared and all is as it should be.

i have the same problem .\and i cant install my sound driver frm my motherboard disk..it states sog\ftware only for win 2000,xp,vista..any more ideas anyone..
