I'm wondering if there's an application that will generate a log of my laptop's boot process. I'd like to try to get a detailed list of exactly what is loading at startup, and how long each item takes in an effort to try to reduce startup time.

(Running Windows 7 64-bit)

Thanks!

I think a Boot Trace is what you are after. I could pretend I'm clever but I'll just give you the LINK instead!!

Also see if THIS helps. Scroll down past the BootRacer.

The built in boot log works OK? maybe not enough info for you?
MSconfig - Boot tab, Tick the boot.log.
The file it produces is Windows - ntbootlog.txt

OK, thanks for the replies. I had no idea about the boot log (davehc) - and thanks for the MSFN link, Elmer.

It's looking a bit too deep for my level of expertise. I was just hoping for something that was a bit more graphical and friendly. I tried Boot Racer, but it doesn't give enough detail - like something in a graph form.
