When I receive an email with images (not attachments) I have to click on
"show images." Is there a way to automatically have these images appear
in the email. I thought it might be a setting I don't have checked.
Thanks.

As someone showed in a reply, there is a way.
Before you use it, you might consider that opening an email attachment
or embedded "picture" from an unknown source, can be hazardous.

Well, that makes sense now that I see the OP is running Windows *Live*
Mail and not Windows Mail.

Actually allowing embedded images to be downloaded and displayed is one
spammer's trick to verify that your email address is valid. Really it's
best to block images from being downloaded and only display embedded images
from reliable sources. Here's how you do that:

Press ALT-M and click on the Safety Options item in the menu that pops up,
then in the Safety Options window, click on the Security tab. Now make sure
that the line that says "Block images and other external content in HTML
e-mail." has a check in the box. Now it would be safe to say that you could
trust people that you e-mail on a regular basis, so you could put a check in
the box on the line that says "Show images and external content sent from
e-mail addresses in my Safe Senders list." and click the Apply button. Now
click on the Safe Senders tab and make sure that a check is in the box net
to "Also trust e-mail from my Contacts" and click on OK.

Now when you're reading your e-mail only your contacts and those in your
Safe Senders list will show images. If you need to add someone to your safe
senders list a quick way is to right click on the name part of the from line
(to the left of the email address in brackets) and select add to safe
senders in the drop-down menu.

That's good if you want to let spammers know if your email is valid or
not.... it's better to block images and use the safe sender's list to
allow images to be downloaded from trusted sources.
