Shortcut extensions

When creating shortcuts to the desktop is there a way to do it without
the extension being included other than renaming it?

For example, if I right click the executable from FastStone Image Viewer
Portable and select Sent to > Desktop (create shortcut) it creates a
FSViewer.exe shortcut, I would like just FSViewer to show. Same goes
with other shortcuts to .txt or .pdf files.

Already have the Shortcut to... prefix and shortcut arrow disabled but
cant find a way to disable the extension from being included.


Using Windows 7 64 bit.
