Searching

In XP I could go to a directory and search for videos and it would find all
videos (*.avi, * mpeg, *.womb) or whatever with just one search. Is there a
way to do this in Windows 7?

Download the free "Everything" program and it will do that search.

That wasn't standard behavior in XP unless you renamed all of your
videos to include "videos" in their filenames, or you created a folder
containing the string "videos" in its name, etc.

What search term, exactly, did you search on to find your videos in
XP?

If we can figure out what you were doing in XP, maybe we can figure
out a way to duplicate that behavior in Win7.

It's easy -- just type

kind:video

into the Explorer search window. More info on search properties is found
here:

Click on the drive icon in Explorer or in the Advanced Search dialog, then
type in your criteria. You can also type in a path. For example, from My
Computer you could search a sub folder and a file kind:

path:E:\ AND kindictures

It's quicker to just click the drive icon before entering your query.
