Problem solved by using both the Homegroup and...
Problem solved by using both the Homegroup and Network Troubleshooters on both laptop and desktop.
If anyone does have the answer, I would still love to know why I could print over the network...

Check Disk Error
My computer has run chkdsk /f since I got it a few months ago w/o a problem, but starting just about a week ago, whenever I attempt to run it, I get this message during reboot:
Autochk cannot run...
