Resolution problems

I am having resolution problems, tech support tells me its a software problem (graphics card driver)
I have tried disabling and re-installing the drivers, nothing works, please help!
The pictures below will explain what is wrong

This is what happens most of the time i turn on my computer:

It turns normal after constantly restarting, but the resolution cannot be changed and it cant sleep:

Do you have the driver installed for your monitor?

Have checked the Catalyst Control Center if your card is a Radeon?

Nvidia has a similar control panel also.

Before going any further, I would try swapping monitors with another computer. Setting the resolution requires a good deal of "handshaking" between the graphics solution and the monitor. You need to verify which one is having the problem and swapping out monitors will do that instantly. If the problem occurs on the second monitor on your computer, you know for sure the problem is with your computer/graphics solution. If the problem follows your monitor to the 2nd computer, you know the problem is with your monitor.

Also, note that ALL LCD monitors have a "native resolution" - the optimal resolution for that particular display. That is what you should be setting it too - at least while troubleshooting.

It could be a hardware problem. Have you tried reinserting the card, or the plug?
