I have a bump on my lip. It sure would be nice to turn my monitor
into a mirror for a min or two.

Webcam. If you don't want to lean forwards,
a hi-res one.

My laptop has a web cam, but I thought I was doing the world a favor
by not having one on my desktop.

It's a tumor and it will overtake your face within weeks. You don't
want a mirror.

Don't forget to flip the webcam image otherwise you be poking at the
wrong side of you face.

I don't want one on my computer, but I don't know if that is modesty or
vanity.

Turn on a bright light, polish your screen and turn your monitor off
for as long as you want.

A web cam won't provide a mirror image (left and right reversed). Try
combing your hair with a web cam image.
