Recycle Bin total

How do I get Win7 Recycle Bin to show total content size on the Status
Bar? It shows Number of Items, and you can get the sizes of individual
entries under Detail View. But XP shows Total.
I can either run my eye down the size column and get a rough estimate;
or I can do a Disk Cleanup and look in the entry for the RB it displays.

I wish I knew the answer to this, too. I will be watching!

I'm afraid the answer will be "you can't do that anymore." That's one
of a number of things in Win7 that XP had right that MS decided wasn't
right.

Make sure Status Bar is enabled. I thought mine was, but it's the other bar, whatever it's called, that's showing with
the Recycle Bin icon and "5 items" next to it. When I clicked View, Status Bar, the real Status Bar showed, and it says
5 items on the left and 60.1MB on the right (I'm running Win7 Home Premium 32-bit).

I can't get that for the life of me. I'm running HP 64-bit.

Disabled by Default. I do not have a Win 7 in front of me now but you can change the
default with the Reg Key

I forgot to mention, I'm also running Classic Shell. That may have something to do with my view of it.

Don't think you can. For some reason, Windows 7's version of the Recycle Bin
in unable to handle folders. If you have only files in the Bin, or select
only files, leaving alone any folders, the total size will be displayed in
the Notification Panel (not the Status Bar) at the bottom of the window. If
your version doesn't show this, try selecting the files and right click >
Properties, and it shows the answer. As soon as you include a folder, empty
or otherwise, it just can't handle it.

Not on mine. In my earlier reply to Ed, I had 60.1MB of files and no folders. I deleted a folder with 1.93MB of files in
it and now my Recycle Bin shows 62.0MB. As I posted then, I am also running Classic Shell, so that may have some affect
on my views.

I don't seem to see what SC Tom describes either (yes, I saw his post
about Classic Shell), but if I select items, I do seem to see the size
of them at the bottom of the window. The visibility state of the status
bar seems not to matter.

I'm confused, but I'm soon going to watch TV, and so I won't find out
more tonight :-)

This is what I see when I double-click on the Recycle Bin icon:

http://tinypic.com/m/f0uede/3

The settings under View are Status Bar checked, Details, Sort by Name and Ascending, and Group By has nothing selected.
Why mine should be any different than anyone else's is beyond me unless it's because of Classic Shell.
