I have a sneaking suspicion that the original poster already solved
their problem sometime within the past year and a half.

Despite this may I add my 2 cents worth?

I am using seamonkey as my browser and using its newsreader
function as my newsreader.

In the seamonkey shortcut I have this as properties

"C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" /news

The last entry ensures that the shortcut takes me to the newsreader function
with one click.

I use thunderbird as my email program.
