I have been thinking of buying one more XP Pro disk and wondering if
anyone had any opinions on this seller and if it is a legal
transaction. I have never used XP Pro 64 Bit and was thinking of
giving it a try.

Windows XP Pro x64 is a crippled version of Windows Server 2003 with the
XP desktop GUI. That means some of your client software meant to run on
a workstation version of Windows may not run on the server version. You
will also need x64 server versioned hardware drivers. So it can be a
hassle to get it all working. Have you even bothered to check if the
hardware makers (mobo, video, SATA, data modem, sound card, etc) have
64-bit drivers for XP x64?

Most of the users that I know that got XP x64 soon after preferred they
got XP x86 and not had the headaches they've encountered with the 64-bit
version. Few actually needed memory over the 2GB barrier and the
nuisances have outweighed the advantage of more memory.

BTW: The Windows XP newgroups are ...
.... thatta way --> microsoft.public.windowsxp.*

Does your computer have a 64-bit CPU? Are you sure that there are
64-bit Windows XP drivers available for all your hardware?

Unless the answer to both questions is yes, forget about it; you can't
do it. Even if the answers are both yes, it's not a good idea.

2GB for user processes, like apps, in 32-bit Windows.

I have several Win7 builds. Lately I have been toying with WinXP Pro
just for nostalgia. I also have an Asus G73SW-A1 Republic of Gamers
17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop.

Thanks for that. I know little about XP 64 Bit. It seems I came to
the right place and will stick with what I already have.

Thanks. I just decided to scrap that idea. I am always looking for
new things to play with so I guess I will wait for Windows 8.

Give it a go if you must, but the lack of available drivers has always been
a problem. If you want to play try Windows 8
