Hi everyone

I have recently purchased a HP mini netbook which has windows 7 on it. I also got an external dvd drive which works fine when installing programmes or playing audio CDs but when I try to play a dvd, it tells me that there is a decoder error. I have trawled the internet trying to find a decoder but nothing I have downloaded has worked. Can someone please help me by showing me where to download what I need?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheryl

Hi cherylmackay - Welcome to w7forums

I usually install K-Lite Codec Pack 5.5.6

Some people say its bloated because it has somany codecs included when you would only need a few of them.

Actually K-Lite Codec Pack 5.5.6 Full is the best all round choice and will cover 99.9% of things you come across to play

Another thing to try if you don't want to play with extra drivers or programs is to use the Add/Remove Windows Programs and untick Media Player and Media Center and reboot. Then reverse the process to add them back in and do yet another reboot and try it then.

Please note this is for special editions.

The Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN will install Media Player and related technologies on a computer running Windows 7 N or Windows 7 KN edition.
