Problems with Folder View

Running Windows 7. Like it and has been working great. However; all of a
sudden when I open a folder in Explorer, I wind up with a pane that is
basically divided in two parts. The left pane will show the contents of
the folder and the right pane will show "Select a file to preview". I
don't like that; is there a way to get rid of that and just have one
pane? I have gone into "Customize this folder" and have set it be
optimized as "General" Doesn't do a thing for me!
Is there a solution?

I think you want Organize > Layout > Preview.

I thank you for your quick reply and that was exactly what was needed to
fix my problem!

Click the "Hide the preview pane" Icon.

You can also grab the divider bar and slide it to the right to
decrease the size of the Preview Pane.
