[SOLVED] Power outage

Evidently, there was an outage last night. My microwave was blinking this morning and when I got to my computer, it was shut down. I powered it up and all I have is a white screen! It's plugged into a quality surge protector, but I've heard they should be replaced every couple of years and this one is considerably older, though it saw several years in storage (it probably has about 4 years of time on it). The real problem, though, is how do I get my computer back?

There's no boot screen, no login screen, no "check source and connection," nothing but a white screen that reloaded about three times.

Came back up on a restart.

Luckily I live in the UK. Power surges are a rare occurrence due to the nature of our mains supply.

Magoo - It would behoove you to purchase a good quality U.P.S. (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for your system. Especially if your concerned about power outages and / or brownouts.

In addition, a UPS has voltage filtering and regulation which smooths out the power and provides a clean power to your system.

They're not inexpensive, but certainly worth it in the long run. A good one will cost about $100 or so. In addition, they provide software which will automatically shut down the computer properly a few minutes after the power outage occurs. Thus avoiding the issue which happened to you.
